What is Dog Agility, and

Why is Everyone Talking About It?

Agility is a relatively new sport in the United States, and it has increasingly become very popular for both owners and dogs.  It is one of the best ways to bond with your dog.  If you are interested in just getting a closer bond with your dog, or possibly competing in agility trials, agility is for you!!!

Classes are held from April until October.  We do not hold classes during the winter months or during inclement weather.  Classes may also be postponed because of occasional thunderstorms or other unsafe weather conditions.

Dogs and owners wishing to take agility classes must have completed at least one obedience class offered by the Sierra-Tuolumne Kennel Club, or be evaluated by the current instructors.  This is for the safety of both the instructors and the dogs.   The beginning class teaches  dogs and owners how to safely negotiate the A-Frame, Dog Walk, Teeter, and Table.  Jumps and tunnels are included and weave poles are introduced.  Rules of each organization is discussed and handouts are provided at each class.

Location for the classes will be Humane Society of Tuolumne County, on Victoria Way in Jamestown, behind the C&C Mini-Mart. The training field is to the right and up at the top of the hill from the actual Humane Society's building.

Please bring water and soft treats for your dog.  Closed shoes, preferably tennis shoes with a gripped sole, are recommended.  No prong collars allowed on the training field, only flat buckle collars.  A 4' or 6' leash will be required, and you may find that a 2' leash is more convenient, but not required

Class duration is approximately one hour for 8 weeks and the fee is $65.00 per dog.
