General Meeting Minutes

November 19, 2001

Meeting Start time: 6:05 p.m.

Members Present: Fred & Pat Helmbold, Linda Grant, Cherie Gessford, Mark & Holly Azevedo, Lindsay Stark, Bruce Bertholf, Sydney Seiver, Patti Martlew, Ed & Nancy Wyllie (this month’s hosts), Al & Mary Kennedy, Sharlene Reed, Minou Alexander, and Mary Phoenix

Guest: Sharlene Craig, Photos Today

Nominating Committee: It was M/S/P by Pat/Nancy to accept the Nominations as presented.

President’s Report – Fred: Discussion regarding the Audit from Jim Maltese, CPA. The Club is presently running under a "cash basis". Fred also provided a printout of the results (to this day) of the AKC Show/Trial.

Secretary’s Report – Linda: Thank you letters have been received from the Judges (they were passed around). Holiday Party invitations have been sent out. RSVP by December 1st, please. Dues are due on January 1st. Several Club members (Linda, Lindsay, Bruce and Sydney) attended the Humane Society/Animal Control Adopt-a-Dog on Sunday November 4th.

Treasurer’s Report – Fred/Mark: Financial information was provided to the members present.

There was then a Round Robin of the Committee’s for the AKC Show/Trial (a limit of two to three minutes of "highlights"):

Obedience – Cherie: There was a big entry. Everyone was very happy with the "Q" rosettes.

Flowers – Nancy: Everything went okay. Got lots of compliments on the decorations (as noted by the Judges’ thank you’s).

Parking – Bruce: He thanked everyone that helped out in the parking. Suggestion was to rope off the front area for the Judge’s only, and to create some type of package deal for day-of parking and a catalog.

Hospitality – Lindsay: It was recommended that next year we do not have the Aladdin Hotel offer breakfast coupons since many did have breakfast and then missed out on the pancakes. We will try and negotiate a lower price. Overall, the comments on the lighter food menu were great!

Trophies – Holly: Everything went fine. Once things got rolling, it was easy to handle.

Publicity – Sydney: "Weekender" had several items (Historian Cherie as clipped and saved them all), and a ‘thank you’ note has been sent to Patty Fuller, Gary Lineham and staff for all the coverage.

Venders – Linda: Fees seemed high for what they got. We will relook at that and compare to other shows.

Stewards – Linda: Sharlene Craig (Camellia Kennel Club) recommended that we increase the Stewards fees to be more in line with other shows.

Education – Linda: Carol Biedermann came on Friday and set up, and then came back on Sunday, late afternoon, and boxed everything back up. She did a great job, and it was appreciated.

Grounds – Fred: We had no "official" pooper-scoopers, which will be taken care of next year. We had to move Ring #4 inside due to the rain. It caused a slight delay, but was not a problem.

Overall report: The AKC Representative, Florence Males, gave us good marks on our show.

General Committee Reports:

Obedience – Linda: First application has been received and it is from our EMT, Jennifer Mundy. It was M/S/P by Pat/Lindsay to refund her the fee, in lieu of providing her a fee for her EMT services for the show (she was at the show both days, from start to end). Classes start January 9th. Puppy classes will start the following week, but they can sign up and have orientation the 9th.

Agility – Linda: Fun Runs still going on, weather permitting. No report until the spring.

Publicity – Sydney: The Tuolumne County Library had a "Pound Puppy" program, and the Club provided several handouts.

Editor – Nancy: Please giver her information to put in the "Howler".

Historian – Cherie: Getting information as it is published, etc. All up to date.

Sunshine – Holly: She has volunteered to take it on. Dorothy Folley is recovering from surgery. Please let Holly know of any sickness or other reasons that a card may need to be sent from the Club.

Membership – Pat: Renewals are coming in.

Therapy Chairman – Sydney: She requested to be the Chairman because of the recent break off of the other Group. Sydney will set up dates, including weekends, for those with Therapy dogs. Bruce Bertholf will be applying to TDI as a Certified Therapy Dog Evaluator.

Canine Good Citizen Chair – Lindsay: This has been a position previously held by Sherry Galka. Lindsay will take it over. Several of the instructors are now AKC Certified Canine Good Citizen evaluators, and have AKC #’s.

New Business:

It is possible that we may be moving the AKC Show/Trial to the November 2 and 3, 2002 date (previous weekend). AKC and MB-F are agreeable, and letters have been written to each of the judges. All judges need to agree for the date change. The fairgrounds have us penciled in for both weekends.

Minou – would like to form a hiking group with dogs. Cherie and Minou will get together and discuss and make available any plans and dates/locations.

Brags: We now have a new format. Each meeting we will do a Round Robin and members present can give their brag or make an announcement. If you have a long, complicated brag, please write it up on a 3x5 card so that I can get it correct in the minutes. Also, let me know of any corrections/additions. I frequently get wrapped up in listening to each brag, and don’t get all the correct details.

Fred & Pat & "Nancy" (Bernese Mtn Dog) – Fred showed new digital photos of his puppies, taken with his "new" digital camera.

Cherie & Mori (Aussie): Has 5 new agility titles. AKC: Excellent A title, with a 1st and 4th out of 25. NADAC/ASCA titles: Open Jumpers and Open Gamblers. Has 17 titles in 10 months.

Cherie & Moon (Aussie): Received her 1000 Point Award from NADAC. Has a Superior Elite Veterans title, and received her next to last (before NATCH) leg in Veterans Elite Gamblers, with a 1st place.

Mark & Bella (Corgi): Received her Novice Jumpers title and also have 1 leg each in Novice Jumpers, Gamblers and Regular.

Holly & Kody (Corgi): Has Open Gamblers title, and received two Open Gamblers legs.

Linda & Dexi (Aussie): Out of about 1,000 photos shot at the DelValle Agility trial, Dexi’s photo was picked to be on the cover of all of the photographer’s binders, along with a large 8 x 10 put up as a display shot.

Bruce & Velvet (Doberman): Has her Novice Jumpers title, and also Bruce bought Velvet a new house in Twain Harte.

Patti & Holly (Aussie): Has AKC Excellent Jumpers leg and Open standards leg.

Lindsay – has a new Corgi in as a rescue. He is a 4-year-old male, ready for a good home.

Sydney – Miles was at the "Pound Puppies" presentation. Although he was not on the front page of the newspaper (as the other dog was), he was a very good dog, licking the parents, and showing his great manners.

Minou – had a heartwarming rescue of Mazy, which went through three homes before finding her perfect "family".

Sharlene – has 4 Lab puppies, 1 Chocolate, 2 black and 1 yellow. Two are going to new homes shortly. In the spring, Sharlene will be looking for a Rottweiler to add to their family.

Miscellaneous Items:

Board of Directors meeting will be held, Monday, December 03, 2001 at Cherie Gessford’s home at 6:00 p.m.

Next month will be the Holiday Party on December 17th, 6:00 p.m. at Peppery Gar and Brill.

January’s meeting will be Cherie Gessford’s. Menu will be leftovers from the Judges’ dinner (turkey and beef, with some mashed potatoes and veggies).

It was M/S/P by Bruce/Pat to adjourn at 7:45 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Linda
