General Membership Meeting - March 18, 2002 President Linda Grant called the meeting of the Sierra-Tuolumne Kennel Club to order at 6:10 pm. This months meeting was held at the home of Fred and Pat Helmbold in Sugar Pine Members present were: Linda Grant, Cherie Gessford, Lindsay Stark, Ann Brown, Fred & Pat Helmbold, Bruce Bertholf, Mark & Holly Azevedo, Minou Alexander, Sydney Seiver Guests Present were: Joan & Ray Shively PRESIDENT’S REPORT-Linda: At the Board of Directors meeting held on March 6, 2002 the vacant Secretary position was appointed to Lindsay Stark. Ann Brown was unanimously voted in to fill the vacant board position left by Lindsay Stark. SECRETARY’S REPORT-Lindsay: (My first report, please be nice!) A letter of resignation was read from the Popula’s. A letter of thanks was read from Richi with the Leonburger Club for our help in putting on their specialty in February. Linda read a part of the Humane Society newsletter requesting donations. One of the things they asked for was choke chains. It was M/S/P/ by Bruce/Pat to gather all the unused choke chains that we have and take them to the Humane Society for them to pick which ones they need. TREASURER’S REPORT-Fred: Fred and Mark are doggedly working on getting the club financial records in order and up to date. So far they have finished through the end of January.
COMMITTEE UPDATES OBEDIENCE, BASIC-Linda: Graduation was held on February 27. 12 students took the CGC test. 8 people passed and 4 did not. The graduation pot luck was very well received and people stayed late to socialize. A table top gas BB-Q was approved by the board and has been purchased to make hot dog cooking easier. The March 13th class has 16 students enrolled and the intermediate class will begin on March 20th with approximately 10 students, some of whom are not club members. The goal is to have intermediate students ready to go in the ring by the time of graduation. OBEDIENCE, PUPPY-Lindsay: 14 puppies graduated. There are 8 new students enrolled for this class, 2 of them are returning from the last class with new dogs. HIKING- Minou/Cherie: The second hike to Red Hills last month was very nice. 4 people with their dogs participated and Cherie pointed out some of the botanical interests and local plants. The next hike is scheduled for Sunday March 24 at Lyons Lake Way Station. The goal is to have a hike on the Sunday after our meeting, weather permitting. Contact Minou or Cherie for details. SUNSHINE-Holly: A condolence card was sent to Barbara Broad. Her mother passed away on Saturday March 9. HISTORIAN-Cherie: No report THERAPY DOGS-Sydney/Ann: A list of all the places and contacts that Therapy Dogs are welcome has been compiled and is posted in this issue of the Howler. It will be maintained on the website www.stkc.orgLindsay has gathered all the information needed for the annual renewal report and will mail it to TDI this week. Bruce is waiting for 2 more letters of reference in order to continue with his application to become a certified tester. PUBLICITY-Sydney: Great job as usual. The classes are in the paper and on the radio all the time. CANINE GOOD CITIZEN- Lindsay: The forms from our graduation have been mailed in to AKC. Crutches and a walker have been donated for the CGC graduation test. CLASS COMMITTEE-Linda: A meeting date of the class committee was made for March 28. The committee will discuss the requirements of instructors and curriculums etc. MEMBERSHIP-Pat: Membership Books were handed out and will be available at the next meeting in April. Pat has done a fantastic job on the new books. They come complete with a 3 ring binder this year and each member gets their own page for easier updates. The Constitution and Bylaws will be given out later once they have been revised and approved. Binders will not be mailed, but inserts can be. Please contact Pat at 586-6126 to make arrangements to get your new book if you will not be able to get one at the next meeting in April.
UPCOMING EVENTS ATTS SEMINAR Sat. April 27 -Linda: Entries are up to 12. Volunteers are needed for key position in order to run the test and to help with Hospitality. Please contact Linda at 533-2276 to volunteer. NADAC/ASCA TRIAL June 8&9-Lindsay: Judges have been finalized and travel plans made for them. Ribbons have been ordered by Holly. Volunteers will be needed. Most jobs are very easy and if we get a lot of people to help, the work will be easier for all. Please contact Lindsay at 984-4034 to volunteer. AKC TRIAL Sept. – Linda: No report BIG SHOW November-Linda: No report TROPHIES-Holly: The trophies for the big show have been ordered and donations are being requested. The trophy sheet was passed around, but there are many openings still available. Please contact Holly at 586-2012 to make your trophy donations. NEW BUSINESS A Judge’s Selection Committee was formed for the Big Show. Members are: Linda Grant, Cherie Gessford, Bruce Bertholf and Fred Helmbold Minou would like to start research on starting a local dog park. She volunteered to get the ball rolling and see what she can find out about legal issues etc.
BRAGS Sydney and Tess (Heeler): received her 1st novice gamblers leg in NADAC Agility. Ann and Holly (Golden Retriever): Holly is ranked 10th in the Nation for High Combined scores in Obedience. High Combined is scores for Open and Utility on the same day. Joan Shively and Keeper (Newfoundland): Placed 1st in class in Dixon. Holly: Placed 7th in her bike race last weekend. Linda and Dexi (Aussie): 1st in open Blue. Winners Dog. Best of Winners. Best of Opposite at the Santa Clara Dog Club show 2/24/02. Dexi now has 10 points. He needs 15. Cherie and Mori (Aussie): Got his Elite titlein Tunnelers-NADAC Cheri and Moon (Aussie): 9/10 of the way to her 2nd NATCH-NADAC. She is ranked 10th in the Nation for Australian Shepheds. It was M/S/P by Cherie/Bruce to adjourn at 7:55 pm. Next months meeting will be at the home of Patti Martlew in Jamestown.
