Agenda:

Presidents Report – Linda: Cherie has accepted the position of Secretary until the end of the year. Al Kennedy has been appointed by the Board to fill in for Cherie’s Board position.

Board meeting was held on July 15th to discuss Policy manual revisions. Minutes will be reported in the Howler.

Secretary’s Report – Cherie: no report

Treasurer’s Report – Fred: expenses were higher than income for Jan. 1 to June 1, 2003. Various reasons were discussed.

Update on Big Show – Linda:

Judges Panel has been approved by AKC with another change today.

Judges Dinner on Saturday evening will be at the Peppery and will be similar to what we had for the Holiday Dinner – Peppery Banquet

Premium List has been sent to MBF. No word (as of Friday) or comments back. It will be coming back for one final review in about 2 weeks.

Three Vendors already signed up and paid for. Hoping for more.

Medallions have been reordered and should be here. Lettering has been changed to make it readable.

Constitution, By-Laws and Policy Manual Committee Update - Committee members present:

Need to take a canvas vote on whether the two year term was in deed what the General Membership wanted.

We discussed pros and cons of one and two year terms. Bylaw committee wants membership feedback before they make a recommendation to the Board. This will be in the next Howler. Motion – Lindsay, Second – Nancy, Passed.

Update on September AKC Agility Trial –

Lindsay – Entry information - slow at this point but just getting started.

Raffle – Rebekkah & Louis – info via Linda, going well with lots of donations.

Food – Togo’s again? – the need to get other estimates was discussed and various club members will do that and see about prices before a decision is made.

Put Together Work Party – at Linda’s house the evening of September 4th still tentative.

Equipment Repair needs and Work Party – early (no time set yet) on the mornings of August 9th and 10th. The "To do list" from the last September Trial include: 1. Striping of new weave poles with 3 horizontal bands – in the works – Cherie. 2. New soft tunnel holders – already done - Cherie. 3. Cover glossy stripes on new broad jumps with clear contact paper – already done – Cherie. 4. Table needs to be painted and sanded instead of carpet. 5. Check on wooden triple lowest jump cups – OK. 6. One tire jump needs more space on sides – Fred. 7. Drop-Test teeters. 8. Repaint and repair all contact equipment. 9. Check to see if we need a spacer on top of Aframe. 10. Remember to put extra space at ends of rings. 11. Round off edges of all slats on contact equipment – Fred. 12. Make new NATCH/ATCH/MACH poles for competitors – Cherie – mostly done. 13. Repair broken teeter – Fred.

Letters from NADAC/ASCA Agility Trial - Linda read "Thank you" letters from Fred Brattain and Kathryn Horn, two of our judges.

Committee Reports:

Obedience – Linda: Attendance has leveled off to about 80% of signups. Students are great. It’s been hot, but the class area has been very pleasant. Molly will do Micro chipping for $25 at graduation (6:00 p.m.)

Intermediate & Puppy Classes – Cherie – doing well.

Conformation Classes – Linda: We have an average of 6 each night. Everyone loves it, and the lessons are helping with the students placing in the classes at shows. Good job!

Agility Classes – Linda: Graduation was on July 3rd and we had hot dogs/sodas afterwards. It was HOT!! Next session starts August 21st because of the heat. Only 1 Basic and 2 Intermediates have signed up (as of Friday). There will be an Agility demo at classes on Wednesday evening. More people should become interested.

Sunshine – Holly: -no report – Ann said she would get a card for Mark.

Trophies (all areas) – Holly: - no report – Cherie brought dog bone soap examples to show for the Group and Judges’ gifts. Carol volunteered to help with the making.

Membership Solicitor – Mary Kennedy: - will be at graduation with club membership applications and club tee shirts to sell.

Membership Coordinator – Pat Helmbold: - no report.

Publicity – Sydney: - no report.

Education – Let’s think of a "program" that we can have at a future meeting. Could club members come up with ideas they would like for a meeting program. Herding was suggested.

Historian/Library – Cherie: - no report.

 

New Business

Rattlesnake Avoidance Seminar – 2004: Patti – we would like to try for a date in April or May.

Need names for hosting the 2004 meetings, thanks for those that volunteered.

3. Lindsay would like a shadow for next year’s AKC Agility Trial as she won’t be doing it. Arlene Proebsting volunteered.

4. Several members wanted to know how to deal with Margery’s unwanted Emails. Deleting seems to be the only answer.

5. Fred showed us an example of a new ring sign for the Big Show. They looked so nice. He had estimates. The members wanted more information before a decision was made.

Next month’s meeting – August 18 – Jim and Carol Frazier – map to be included in the Howler.

BRAGS:

1. Linda & Dexi - #1 Year End Award for USASA (U. S. Australian Shepherd Association) in Open Agility. He gets a plaque and photo in the Sept/Oct issue of Aussie Journal.

2. Bruce & Dexi – at Gardnerville, his first time herding cattle, got a 3rd and a 4th, for his Started Cattle, did it in 3:13 minutes (max time is 10 minutes). Third place and a leg in Started Ducks. Third place and a leg in Open Sheep.

3. Char Dooley & Cora – got her CD and a fourth place at SJDTC (has been taking the Intermediate class!)

4. Arlene & Olivia – Olivia had 3 wonderful and healthy Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppies, 2 boys and a girl.

5. Cherie & Moon – for ASCA (Australian Shepherd Club of America) was 1st in the Nation for the Agility Merit Program in Veterans, beating the highest Veteran by 21 points, only missed by 1 ½ points the highest dog in Standard.

6. Cherie & Mori – ranked 26th in Standard for the Agility Merit Program, Nationals are in Minnesota this year, too bad they are so far away.

7. Sydney – won big time at the Mother Lode Fair this year with 31 – 1st places, 29 – 2nd places, 18 – 3rd places, and 4 Award of Merits.

Sydney & Miles – won 3rd place in his first Obedience Trial in Sub Novice.

Lindsay & Tobey – 2 – 3rd places in Regular, 1st and a Q in Gamblers, 2 – 1st places in Jumpers for her Outstanding Novice Jumpers, 1st and a Q in Touch N go, 1st and a Q in Tunnelers.

Jo-Ann – showed us a picture, "Dogs on a Log" of 7 Aussies, including her own, sitting all in a row on a log during a camping trip to Hermit Valley.
