February 18, 2002

President Linda Grant called the meeting of the Sierra-Tuolumne Kennel Club to order at 6:10 p.m. This month’s meeting was held at the home of Lindsay Stark in Jamestown. The following members were present: Linda Grant, Cherie Gessford, Bruce Bertholf, Lindsay Stark, Ann Brown, Mark & Holly Azevedo, Patti Martlew, Sydney Seiver, Minou Alexander, Fred & Pat Helmbold, and Al & Mary Kennedy.

Members present unanimously voted in Sharlene Craig from Columbia and Sacramento.

President’s Report – Linda: We presently have a vacancy on the Board for the position of Secretary. Lindsay Stark has agreed to accept the position. Ann Brown was nominated to fill in the vacant Board of Directors position, which will be left by Lindsay. The decision was tabled to the upcoming Board meeting to be held on March 6th.

Club members Fred Helmbold, Lindsay Stark, Cherie Gessford, Ed & Patti Martlew, Bruce Bertholf and Linda Grant, helped set up and worked the Leonberger show the weekend of February 9th. Members Pat Helmbold, Mark & Sydney Seiver and Gary Cowley stopped by during the day to say "Hi". The show was very different than ours.

Secretary’s Report – Linda (my last report !): Correspondence was sent to the Humane Society and Animal Control offering a free Basic/CGC or Puppy Class at the next obedience session.

Treasurer’s Report - Mark/Fred – no report, but discussion regarding the Certificates of Deposit. More information will be provided at an upcoming meeting.

Committee updates:

Obedience (Basic) – Linda: Graduation will be February 27th, starting at 5:00 p.m. We need helpers for the stations. Hot dogs and sodas provided by the Club. Participation Certifications will be given to all students, and CGC forms for those that pass the CGC test.

Obedience (Puppy) – Lindsay: Class is going well. Graduation will be the same evening.

Hiking Committee – Minou/Cherie: It was decided that every Sunday following the General Membership meeting will be a hiking day. This month it will be to the Red Hills. Meet at 9:00 a.m. (not sure where!) Cherie knows of 4 endangered plant species in that area.

Sunshine – Holly: No report

Historian/Librarian – Cherie: still gathering information

Therapy – Sydney/Ann: Lindsay offered to provide assistance in filling out the required TDI paperwork. It was all decided by the general membership present to have a listing of phone numbers of the various care homes placed in the Howler so that those with TDI dogs could go when they had the time. It has become quite obvious that we are unable to get dates set where members will be able to attend.

Canine Good Citizen – Linda: New forms were ordered and arrived in time for the CGC test.

Obedience Committee – Linda: A new committee is being formed to review the obedience policies and procedures. At present, we have Linda, Cherie, and Fred. Other members are encouraged to join. The first meeting will be held in conjunction with the Board meeting on March 6th.

By-Law/Policy Manual Revision Committee – Lindsay: Members are Fred, Ann, Lindsay, Holly, and Nancy. They set the first meeting date for February 22nd at Mark & Holly’s home.

Publicity – Sydney: Lots of publicity in the paper about the dog classes. Also it was on the radio.

Membership – Pat: has purchased a program to prepare the membership booklets. They should be available at the March meeting.

Board meeting – Linda: A meeting has been scheduled for the Board of Officers and Directors for March 6th at 5:00 p.m. Ann Brown will be attending as a potential Board member.

Upcoming Events:

ATTS Test - Linda: flyers have been sent out. Location will be Jamestown Elementary School on April 27th.

NADAC/ASCA Agility Trial, June 8-9 – Lindsay: Gave an update on the judges, etc. Rooms have been reserved; the Snowshoe Brewery will be the host of the Judges dinner (buffet style).

AKC Agility Trial, September – Linda: No new information. Cherie requested approval to purchase an additional triple jump and panel jump from Duncan K9 products. It was M/S/P by Fred/Lindsay to purchase.

AKC Conformation/Obedience Show, November – Linda: Date has been set for meeting with Shirley Wilson Rose on lining up trophies. Holly, Lindsay and Linda will be meeting with her on March 4th.

Brags:

Lindsay – She was the "Official Photographer" for the Leonberger Show. This was her first professional photo job. Lots of good feedback on her photos.

Fred and Maverick (Bernese Mountain Dog) – at the Orangevale Puppy Match, Maverick went Best of Breed and was 2nd Place in the Working Group.

Cherie – Her daughter, Kate, was found safe and sound in the Crater Lake area after being lost for approximately seven days. To date, Cherie has raised $777.00 to present to the Ranger Station that was so helpful in finding Kate.

Ann and Holly (Golden Retriever) – At the NORCAL Golden Retriever Club Awards Banquet on January 26th, Holly received the "Top Obedience Golden for 2001" award. The award is based on the number of placements earned during the year at obedience trials. Holly had 139 points while the next closest dog had 85! Ann passed around a very nice plaque that she received for this honor.

Miscellaneous – the club is offering for sale puppy x-pens for sale. They are 8 panel, one is 36" high, the other is 42" high. The price is $50 each.

It was M/S/P by Bruce/Pat to adjourn at 7:50 p.m.

Next Month’s meeting is at the home of Fred and Pat Helmbold, Sugar Pine.

Respectfully submitted,

Linda J. Grant
