General Membership Meeting – August 19, 2002
President Linda Grant called the meeting of the Sierra-Tuolumne Kennel Club to order at 6:15 pm. This months meeting was held at the home of Fred and Pat Helmbold, Sugar Pine.
Members present were: Linda Grant, Cherie Gessford, Lindsay Stark, Fred & Pat Helmbold, Bruce Bertholf, Mary & Al Kennedy, Patti Martlew, Mary Phoenix, Nancy Wylie, Mark and Holly Azevedo
PRESIDENT’S REPORT-Linda: A nomination committee was formed for the November board nominations, which will be Cherie Gessford, Holly Azevedo and Sydney Seiver.
It was M/S/P by Fred and Lindsay that any old equipment that the Club votes to be outdated or no longer useful will be put up for auction in the Howler. The minimum bid is $1.00 and bids will be accepted for 1 month either to the P.O, box (PO Box 1256, Soulsbyville, CA 95372) or to Linda Grant’s email (tyedyed@hughes.net). The winning bid will be announced in the following Howler.
New Seminars: It was decided that any new seminars should wait until next spring. Seminar proposal requirements were outlined as follows: Whoever wishes to organize a seminar for the club, must make a written proposal to the club with the following information included: Instructors qualifications, fees, and seminar date. How many people may attend, how many may audit and what their cost would be.
SECRETARY’S REPORT-Lindsay: premiums were shared and many AKC rule updates. Please check the AKC website ( www.akc.org) for rule changes, there are plenty of them! One of the new regulations is that clubs will have AKC signs at all events. It was M/S/P by Pat and Al to purchase a 3x8 sign if we in fact need to do that. There is some gray area there that Lindsay is going to verify first.TREASURER’S REPORT-Fred: P/L breakdowns for all the classes to date and the NADAC trial.
COMMITTEE UPDATES
OBEDIENCE, BASIC-Linda: 18 students
OBEDIENCE, PUPPY-Lindsay: 15 puppies. It has been requested that we have an additional puppy class this year. It was M/S/P by Fred and Holly to have the class no matter what. Then Bruce had some comments to make and people wanted clarification. It was then M/S/P by Al and Linda to rescind the previous motion. After much more conversation it was M/S/P by Nancy and Al that the class be given as long as the Club did not lose any more that $200.00
AGILITY-Linda: Next classes will start 9/12
SUNSHINE-Holly: No report
PUBLICITY: Flyers for new classes have been sent and the class has been listed in the Democrat.
Constitution/Bylaws-Lindsay: The Constitution has been sent to AKC for their approval, no word yet.
TROPHY-Holly: All ribbons are in and the November trophies are done at Wilson Studios.
UPCOMING EVENTS
AKC TRIAL Sept. – Lindsay: We are about ¾ full. Mary Phoenix will do hospitality and Pat will do the Score table. Please call Linda or Lindsay if you are available to help.
BIG SHOW November-Linda: The NORCAL Stewards have agreed to do our show. Cherie requested that the obedience stewards be compensated equally for their services since they are not included with NORCAL. M/S/P by Lindsay and Fred that their compensation be equal to the other stewards.
BRAGS
Bruce and Velvet (Doberman): Earned 2 legs towards her AKC CD in Santa Cruz Fred and Maverick (Bernese MT. Dog) - Reserve Winners Dog at Santa Cruz Linda and Dexi (Australian Shepherd): At Carson City he got 2 first places, and 1 second place in Novice Standard for his Novice Standard title in NADAC/ASCA. He also went Winners Dog for 1 more point at Santa Cruz (11 total points out of the 15 needed for Championship). He also sired a litter of Aussie puppies born 8/18 – 4 girls, 5 boys (blue merles and black tris). Cherie and Mori (Australian Shepherd): 1 double Q in MX & MXJ = MACH points Cheri and Moon (Australian Shepherd): In Carson City she got 8 of 8 runs for a perfect weekend! Earned her ASCA superior Veterans Elite Jumpers Title, was HIT Aussie, HIT Veteran overall and got her ASCA ATCh. WAY TO GO MOON.!!!! It was M/S/P by Fred/Al to adjourn at 8:10 pm. Next month’s meeting will be at the home of Sydney Seiver in Columbia October meeting is at Mary and Al Kennedy’s home. Out of respect for them, there will be no alcoholic beverages at this meeting. November is at Minou Alexander’s home.
