Sierra-Tuolumne Kennel Club, Inc. General meeting minutes April 16, 2001 President Stu Galka called the meeting of the Sierra-Tuolumne Kennel Club to order at 6:00 p.m. Cherie Gessford hosted this month’s meeting. Members present were: Stu and Sherry Galka, Linda Grant, Cherie Gessford, Bruce Bertholf, Sydney Seiver, Lindsay Stark, Ann Brown, Sharlene Reed, Jim & Jo Mitchell, Pat & Fred Helmbold, Dorothy Folley, Minou Alexander, Nancy Wyllie.
Guests present were: Patti Martlew (Aussie), Christiana Kerns (Shiloh Shepherd) and Al & Mary Kennedy (Golden Retriever) President’s Report – Stu: Don Leonard, former Vice President and Honorary Board Member, has moved to Salinas to be with his daughter. Everyone appreciated all of Don’s hard work in being our Chief Barbecuer for all of the Club Obedience Graduations. Stu also spoke about the cleaning and dog walking that is being provided by several club members at the Humane Society. Treasurer’s Report – Sherry: readout was provided on the various accounts the Club has. Secretary’s Report – Linda: an additional repayment of an insufficient check has been received. This was from our ’99 show. AKC News: The AKC has placed a moratorium on allowing any FSS dogs to entry any AKC Performance Event. AKC announced this on April 10th. It has been determined that this is a direct outcome of the recent mauling of the San Francisco woman. Committee Reports: Obedience – Sherry: Instructors will be Stu, Sherry, Cherie, Linda, Jim, Bruce, Sydney, and Dorothy. Lindsay and Molly will instruct puppy classes. Intermediate will be at 4:00 p.m. with 12 signed up; Basic/CGC has 37 signed up and Puppy has 20. The Mi-Wok class has 7 students. Agility – Linda: Eight are signed up so far. FunRuns will follow immediately after the Beginning classes. Education – Carol: The June 18th meeting, hosted by Fred & Pat, will have AJ Ford and his Narc dog. Guests are welcome. Publicity – Sydney: Very nice ad in the Union Democrat and Weekender. Therapy – Jo, assisted by Rosie & Carol: Discussion about the Mother Lode Parade. Shari Robert is organizing. Historian – Cherie: updated Club Binders are available for viewing. Membership – Lindsay: it was M/S/P by Fred/Lindsay that the Club will mail booklets Upcoming Club Events: ASCA/NADAC Agility Trial – June 9 & 10 Work Party – May 5, 01. Galka’s 9:00 a.m. Board of Director’s meeting at 8:30. We need to move the AKC equipment around and out of the trailer, paint, etc. As of today we have 42 entries. Premium list is now on the website.
AKC Agility Trial – Sherry September 8 & 9: One judge, two rings. Opening date is July 8th. Raffle Chairman position was graciously accepted by Nancy Wyllie (thank you!) AKC Conformation/Obedience Trial – Sherry November 10/11: Judges have been booked. Lindsay passed around the trophy donation sheet. Old Business: Sonora Dog Walk – Lindsay & Marla. Dog Walk for the Humane society Spay & Neuter is tentatively scheduled for April 2002. Members should attend the October 20 Calaveras walk to see what is needed for our walk. There will be a dog walk on April 21st at Summerville football field for those interested.
Miscellaneous Items: Sherry received a call from Gail (last name I did not get) that she let her Clumber spaniel out and it had not returned all day. Gail had contacted Darcy. Don Pierce, Associate Member and brother of Jo Mitchell, recently lost his two Akitas. Brags Sherry & Schoena (GSD) – 1st place and 1st leg for her CDX Ann & Holly (Golden Retriever) – at the Raisin Circuit (3 days), obtained 3 UDX legs, and High Combined on Friday Cherie & Mori (Aussie) – Open leg in AKC agility Cherie & Moon (Aussie) – in ASCA rankings, is #6 in Agility Lindsay & Sebastian (GSD) – 2 CD legs with 2 2nd places Sydney & Jasper (Mixed breed) – has his TDI degree Nancy – Announced that the 3rd on-line auction will be happening for Golden Retriever rescue. It was M/S/P by Jo and Nancy to adjourn at 7:10 p.m.
